Rose Hill Bound!

Guys, it’s going to be a great rest of the week. The beginning of the week I spent the majority of my time reading and writing on these:

No, my project is still unfinished (only 5 pages shy), but we Salmon’s were feeling the need for some rest, relaxation, and family time! So yesterday after I went to NC State, met with some folks in my department, picked up this handy thing (see below),  AND then we hopped in the car and headed to Rose Hill, North Carolina. Home of the world’s LARGEST frying pan and the Salmon family.

GO PACK!

Love this. See I wasn’t lying! It’s huge!

Anyways, so me and blogging may not happen these next few days… we shall see. I might be too busy making strawberry jam and sleeping.

Much love! B

Hello World

It has been an amazing whirlwind weekend.  Friday and Saturday were great, but Sunday stole the show!

I woke up at 6:00am to a phone call from my mom saying that my sister-in-law, Krista, was in labor… My first reaction,  “WHAT?!?!?! She isn’t due till May 7th!?!?!” CRAZY. Soooooo… I got ready, ran to church, talked with Ben, high fived the Roark clan, & then hopped in my car and headed to Tennessee to see Nephew #2 be born.

BUT… not only is Nephew #2 an early bird, he’s also a fast little guy. Evidently it only took 3 good pushes to pop him out! Before I even reached the interstate, the little guy had made his debut into the world.

Seriously y’all, I booked it to TN. I don’t think a trip has ever gone SO quickly! It was SOOOOOO good to be able to be with family during such a special time. The little man weighed 5 lb.s 11 oz. and we still don’t have his height quite yet. They had to put him in the NICU for some minor breathing complications so we had to scrub in to see him. He was so sweet with his little tubes and heart monitor – broke my heart! We were all so very thankful for a healthy baby boy!!!  Here are a few photos of the day, sorry some of them have poor lighting and for the multitudes of photos (i’m a proud aunt… don’t judge me). Needless to say, they keep the lighting dim in the NICU and a flash is obviously not appropriate. 🙂 Enjoy!

Me and Pam (Krissy’s ma) scrubbing in to see the little man.

Sweet little guy being held by his mamma for the first time!

Shows how big lil’ guy is in comparison to Daddy’s hand.

Mitch & Bubba looking after little man!

Seriously… how cute is he???

And isn’t Nephew #1 the world’s cutest big brother????

Ok I’ll stop being THAT aunt now… but for real… I love my nephews!

Much love – Crazy Aunt B

Weekend Review: Kids & Bonhoeffer

This past weekend was a BLAST. A couple from our small group went on a little weekend getaway and we had the privilege of getting to hang out with their three kiddos for a little bit.

Friday night we took them to a State baseball game and the boys were so much fun to watch as they tried to grasp the rules of the game. Here are a few shots of the kiddos enjoying some cotton candy (Thanks to Mr. John and Mrs. Kim – aka. my fabulous inlaws)!

We handed the kiddos off to another couple in our small group, Kelly & Eric, for the midnight shift, and then came back the next day for round 2. It really was a lot of fun! Although we did have a few “WHOA” moments while driving around in a minivan with 3 kids in the back – it was like a brief glimpse into our future (don’t get too excited Ma & Mil… we’re talking distant future). I thought I carried around big purses, but after hanging with these kiddos and carrying 3 sippy cups, a pacifier, a box of cheerios, some extra wipes & diapers I realized that I will definitely need to upgrade a bag size once we start having kiddos. Definitely.

In review: Great kids, wonderful weather, fabulous weekend.

On a completely different note: our small group has been reading Life Together by Dietrich Bonhoeffer and I wanted to share a quote with you that I love:

“God has willed that we should seek and find God’s living Word in the testimony of other Christians, in the mouths of human beings. Therefore, Christians need other Christians who speak God’s Word to them. They need them again and again when they become uncertain and disheartened because, living by their own resources, they cannot help themselves without cheating themselves out of the truth.”

When I read this… I was so moved because I realize how true this is in my own life. I am so sinful, that left to my own thoughts I would cheat myself out of understanding the truth of Scripture rightly. It is a common occurrence in my life when I find myself going down a dangerous path where I have to have someone point out that I’m straying from truth.

Community not only serves as a reminder of truth, but it’s also a joy! I cannot tell you how thankful I am to have people who are willing to speak into my life, but it doesn’t stop/start there! They are also willing to spend time with me & Ben, open up their lives, and bless our family by adding us to theirs.

The folks in my small group and church are an encouragement to me in many ways and I pray that each of you have this in your life as well.  For as Bonhoeffer quotes Psalms 133 in his opening chapter:

“How very good and pleasant it is when kindred live together in unity!”

Much love.  Happy Monday!

Random Thought Tuesday

Ok folks… so I know that technically, people who are good at writing blogs say that you should have a theme/topic and stick to it. BUT… I’m not trying to be a famous blogger. I’m just trying to share tidbits of my life along with my random thoughts on current topics. So if you’re wondering why i don’t follow that blogging rule, SORRY – not going to happen. 🙂

So in true form, today is going to be random… if you can’t handle it, just scroll to the bottom, see the pretty burp cloths I made and then peace out.

Last night was AMAZING. I came home, skipped my run (ooops), & surprised Ben by having dinner ready for him when he got home. Then we did laundry together while listening to a few of my lectures for my online class (thank heavens I’m able to take online classes and multi-task). AND then, I watched my favorite guilty pleasure tv show and sewed the final burp cloth for the set for my sweet baby nephew (10 pts. for the person who guesses what my guilty pleasure show is!).

Seriously… it was a wonderful night. And look at these pretty burp cloths.

When I was single, my favorite nights were ones full of crazy fun activities. Days like this past Saturday (holler LION KING at the DPAC) would’ve been my favorite. And although I thoroughly LOVE those evenings, I’ve decided my favorite nights now are the most ordinary. The nights when we just eat, chill, do laundry, and just spend time together are my fav.

Anyways… I think I’ve got burp cloths down now. I have 2 more sets to make and then I might try a baby throw. Yay for having so many friends & fam that are preggers!

Happy Birthday Dad!

Ok… I know that I said I probably wouldn’t be posting on my break… but I decided to “pre-post” this… so it doesn’t count, right? Also, I wanted to be the first to wish this special guy a Happy Birthday. 🙂 So…

It’s Christmas Eve and I’m pretty excited about that… but tomorrow is not just Christmas, it’s also the birthday of the first man I ever loved. A lot of times, his birthday gets overlooked in the busyness of the hustle and bustle so without further adieu, here is a little picture collage dedicated to the man who has influenced my life the most: My Dad.

Happy 50th Birthday Dad! I love you.

Weekend Review

Alright folks, it was a packed weekend and I had so much fun that I wanted to share it with you! Such a good weekend. 🙂

Friday night Ben took me on surprise date to 18 Seaboard in downtown Raleigh. We both had never been there before, but Ben had heard great things from one of his coworkers. They were right, 18 Seaboard is GREAT! It’s pretty swanky and is on the more expensive end, but it’s worth it if you’re looking for a great location with equally fabulous food.  Ben ordered the Snead’s Ferry she-crab soup & the Tanglewood Farms chicken, and I ordered the Spinach Salad & the Pecan-crusted mahi and grilled shrimp with a honey pecan butter sauce. Everything was FABULOUS, but the she-crab soup was to die for.  I could write a whole blog entry just about that soup, but I’ll spare you. Let me just say, if you go there and don’t get the soup… it’s your loss.

To top off the night, we ran into some of our dear friends’ parents and at the end of the night when we tried to pay for our bill, it was all taken care of! *GASP!* I’ve never had that done before! Such a sweet gift. Great food, good service, fantastic ambiance, AND our bill was taken care of?! Who could ask for more?!

I didn’t bring my camera, but here are some shots of the restaurant. So pretty.

We topped off the night by getting some Hot Krispy Kremes and taking them to our dear friends, the Renstroms. No we weren’t invited over, but we’re a fan of dropping in and crashing… 🙂 especially if food is in hand. It is always so enjoyable to hang out with them and catch up on life.

If that was the end of our great weekend, I would have been content! But our Saturday was just as great as our Friday evening. We went shopping with Ben’s grandparents Mog Maxine and Granddaddy JT. What a hoot (and yes, I did just say “hoot”)! These two are so much fun to hang around. For Christmas they took us to the mall and gave us  money to spend (what a great idea, right? Time with the grandkids and no need for gift receipts!). Needless to say, Mog and I marched our way into one of my favorite stores, the Loft, and we didn’t leave that place until all of the money was spent. 🙂

After we conquered the mall, we went to another favorite place of mine: the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory. MMMM. We bought a few apples and then took Mog & Granddaddy back to our place to enjoy the apples around our Christmas tree! Those two are hysterical. I wish I had kept track of all of their one-liners! What a great day!

Anyways, this post doesn’t have a “theological point” BUT it was such a fun Christmasy weekend that I wanted to share it with you.

Much Love – B
